Pair your eyewear with vintage jewellery

If there’s one thing we love more than eyewear, it’s jewellery, especially when it’s inspired by House of Gucci. Experts William May Jewellers give us their guide to the hottest vintage jewellery

vintage gold jewellery

If there’s one thing we love more than eyewear, it’s vintage jewellery and the two make perfect partners. Team your eyewear with authentic vintage and preloved jewellery - we’ve teamed up with jewellery experts William May Jewellers to get their take on the hottest retro jewellery styles to wear with your vintage frames.

Aviators, squares and hoops

For an authentic 70s luxe look (think BBC’s The Serpent), pair your oversized Aviators with classic gold hoops. Oversized thin hoops or smaller creole hoop earrings both work well with aviators and other 70s large wire and acetate frames.

Oversized 80s frames with big bold jewellery

If you want to channel the Lady Gaga’s look from House of Gucci (and frankly who wouldn’t) go with oversized round or square glasses from the late 70s and 80s, team them up with chunky yellow gold jewels.

Big bold chains are having a moment, are oh so retro and are best-sellers at William May, from classic yellow gold, to chains set with sparkling crystals.

And to complete the full on House of Gucci look, go for big yellow gold bracelets, dress rings and chunky gold earrings.

I’m currently obsessing over gold jewellery and I’d be happy waking up to any of these in my stocking on Christmas morning.. or you could just treat yourself.

Return of the glasses chain

We’re bringing back glasses chains. Check out our new collection of upcycled vintage sunglasses and glasses chains

This summer we’re bringing back glasses chains. Taking inspiration from Victorian socialites and 70s secretaries alike, today’s sunglasses and glasses chains are both chic and practical.

every smart woman wears a lorgnette

It started with the Victorian lorgnette - a pair of spectacles mounted on a handle, which later moved onto a chain. It was the Victorian must-have accessory of the 19th century lady about town.

The name comes from the French word lorgner meaning ‘to ogle’, perfect for checking out possible suitors and the competition.

Over the decades they’ve resurfaced time and time again. The 70s saw our secretaries getting practical, the 80s full of skinny cords and in the 90s we got bling. Perfect for making a statement at work and poolside, they’re back for good reason.

upcycled frame chains

We’ve been busy rescuing vintage beads and chains, scouring the country and sourcing the best vintage finds, upcycling them into sunglasses and glasses chains ready to accessorise your vintage frames.

Original fastenings are kept where possible and modern added when needed. The loops can be easily slipped off so the chains can be worn as jewellery again for a multi-purpose purchase #winning

Transform the look of your frames and never lose your favourite sunnies or glasses again with these one-off pieces.
