try glasses at home
Sometimes you need to hold things in your hands - and pop them on your face. Choosing prescription glasses online doesn’t mean you can’t try them on first.. you can choose your glasses without pressure, at your leisure, from the comfort of your own sofa.
In an optical store you might try on lots of frames before finding your style, but there are ways to help narrow your online Home Try On selection down and help you find the right frame for you. We also wrote an article on choosing prescription glasses here.
Over in our online store you can use categories to filter out frame colours, shapes and size - small, medium and large glasses frames. You can shop different vintage eras if you’re searching for a particular decade, or shop our collections if you’re in need of inspiration.
Our top tip is to measure the total width of a current pair you already own, or a pair of sunnies if you’re a first time glasses wearer, though these can come up a little larger. Compare this to our FW (frame width) measurement in the product description for an idea on sizing your prescription glasses.
Try before you buy
The way the Home Try On service works is once you’ve found your four favourites, just add to basket and purchase up to 4 pairs of glasses frames - we find four pairs give a good chance of success and is much more eco friendly than ordering single frames, keeping our carbon footprint down with multiple packages.
Tick the Home Try On option at checkout and use code
TRYATHOME
This reduces the price of your trial frames by 50%, to keep the inital outlay low for you and works as a frame deposit for us. Any frame balance can be paid for with lenses later.
Enjoy free delivery, seek opinions from friends and family and see if they suit for up to 7 days. If none suit, you can simply return free of charge for a full refund - please note that this service is for our UK customers only.
Returning the home trial box is easy, just place frames back into their glasses try on pouches, in the original box, use our pre-paid postage label and return via your Post Office or arrange a Royal Mail Collection (Royal Mail charge a small fee for this).
If you want to exchange and try more frames, you can order another Home Try On once we’ve received your previous one just tick Exchange on the order card and let us know which styles you’d like to try next.
Don’t worry about adding your prescription lenses - we’ll guide you through options once you’ve decided on your frame, based on your prescription and visual needs.

What to do with your old glasses and sunglasses
Repairing and rewearing is the most eco friendly way to reuse your old glasses, but the next best planet friendly option is to recycle your old glasses so here's how.
It’s national Recycle Week so here’s some handy hints on recycling your old glasses and sunglasses. Repairing and rewearing is the most eco friendly way to reuse your old glasses, but the next best thing is to recycle your old eyewear.
Glasses frames are a tricky mix of metal and plastic, they currently can’t be simply popped in with the household recycling, as the materials need separating out to be fully recycled.
So how can you recycle your old glasses? Here’s our guide to recycling and donating glasses and sunglasses.
reduce glasses waste
Choosing a quality pair of glasses is the best way to reduce glasses waste and keep them out of landfill. Look for quality acetate, metal not plastic hinges and a nice weight and feel will reveal a well made pair.
Go for vintage or preloved secondhand glasses frames over buying new for a more circular sustainable option.
Look after your eyewear, as loved things last. Keep in the case and clean with the cloth - no leaving glasses lens down and you’ll avoid scratches and cracks - head here for more on how to look after your glasses.
Repair and rewear your old frames instead of being tempted to buy new each time your prescription updates.
Repair and rewear old glasses
If you can't bear to part with your favourite glasses, reuse and rewear your old eyewear. Damaged lenses can be reglazed and updated while your frames can be repaired and restored to bring them back into use.
Frame scratching and whitening can be polished out, hinges repaired, nose pads replaced and sides straightened. The reglazing process is easy and your old lenses can be simply replaced with your new updated prescription.
If you’re still in love your current frame, re-lensing glasses is the perfect sustainable solution. You have the option to add in extra coatings or add in a blue light filter for a pocket friendly alternative to buying new.
Or you could add in a tinted lens and turn your old glasses into sunglasses, breathing new life into your old pair.
recycle your old glasses
Old glasses frames or vintage sunglasses hanging around? Don't throw them away - feel good and give back by donating them to us to be recycled or upcycled.
Donate your old frames and we’ll repurpose them by restoring and reselling your unwanted frames saving them from landfill. Or we’ll reuse their parts for repairs. The majority of our donated frames go on to Lions Club who use them to do good in sight related projects in the UK and overseas.
Any we can’t salvage go for recycling at a specialist facility.
Send us your vintage glasses or modern glasses frames and you’ll receive a £10 voucher to spend in store on a new-to-you frame.
You can also donate them direct to Lions Club who will use them to raise money for sight related charity projects across the UK. Vision Aid Overseas are no longer running their glasses recycling scheme.
We don’t recommend donating your old glasses to charity shops, unless they have a designated glasses recycling collection box, as they won’t be able to resell the glasses with prescription lenses and might just end up in landfill. They may accept ready reading glasses, but check with your local charity shop first.
play Dress Up
Keep your old glasses for costume parties and fancy dress. Mums.. a small supply of glasses, particlarly round Harry Potter frames, can come in more than useful for World Book Day. Then there’s Halloween and theme parties to consider.. go as your favourite glasses icon.. we’re thinking Elton John, Iris Apfel, Jackie O or Michael Caine.
re-Sell your old glasses
Keep unwanted eyewear out of landfill and make a little money for your next frame purchase by selling your old glasses on eBay or Depop. Use a good picture and lots of lovely description to help them sell, remembering to include any flaws. Glasses, especially modern frames, have eye size, frame width and lots of information including make and model numbers on the inside to help you make that sale.
gift your glasses
Give your glasses as a gift to friends or family, a frame might just suit them too. We wouldn’t advise sharing lenses with your bespoke prescription, as wearing the incorrect strength can damage your peepers, so lenses should be removed first.
Your gifted glasses can be restored and reglazed as a present for a loved one or made into ready reading glasses perfect for regifting.
If you want to learn more about what you can and can’t recycle - head over to Recycle Now and let’s keep what we can out of landfill #reducereuserecycle

Blue light blocking glasses
An antidote to the modern age woes of digital time and sleep deprivation, blue light blocking screen glasses are the latest tool in our quest for the perfect nights sleep.
An antidote to the modern age woes of screen time and sleep deprivation, blue light blocking glasses are the latest tool in our quest for eye health and the perfect nights sleep.
what is blue light
Smartphones, tablets, tv’s and LED lighting all emit blue light, which is a natural light - it’s present in daylight and helps us feel awake during the day, boosting attention and mood. In fact blue light rays are even used in light therapy to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Here’s the science.. blue light is one of the shortest, highest-energy wavelengths and blue wavelength light stimulates sensors in your eyes which send signals to your brain’s internal body clock.
Being online during the evening ensures our nights are now as illuminated as our days. The eyes are not very good at blocking blue light, allowing it to pass straight through to the retina, this disrupts melatonin and negatively impacts our sleep.
blue light and sleep
As more important research comes to light, we’re beginning to realise the huge importance of sleep for good health. Not only for brain function like concentration, productivity and performance, but to prevent serious illness like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Sleep impacts every area of our lives, so in 2024 we all know the importance of prioritising our sleep.
One study found that sleep deprivation can affect brain function to a similar degree as alcohol intoxication, so missing out on a few hours shut eye is equivelent to a night on the fizz - madness!
Blue light suppresses the brain’s release of the hormone melatonin, a sleep inducing hormone, so artificial night time light throws out our body's biological clock, the circadian rhythm.
Poor sleep can cause so many health issues, so we need do everything we can to secure a good nights sleep and blocking out blue light in the evening can help achieve this.
Wearing your blue blight blocking glasses in the evening as part as your sleep hygiene routine, while watching tv, working late or working your way through the gram, can help prevent that screen light getting through and wrecking your sleep.
blue light and Screens
Many of us spend more time at our screens than actually sleeping (even though we know which is the healthier choice).
As our world becomes more digital the average person is spending at least 3 hours online everyday, from computer screens to updating social media during down time. This can cause digital eye strain, so along with investing in some computer glasses, we need to adopt healthy screen habits starting with…
Staring at our devices without blinking for long periods will cause eye strain so take regular breaks -
follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
We’re all guilty of the the screen hunch which wreaks havoc on our entire body. Position your screen at arms length and straight ahead, consider taking up yoga to counteract sitting for long periods.
Do mindful screen-time after 9pm, so ban the late night insta scrolling and Netflix binging and pick up an actual book to help you get that good nights sleep.
Challenge yourself to a digital detox at the weekends or a digital free day - good for the eyes and the soul.
avoiding eye strain
When we’re screening and scrolling we blink less, which can cause eyes to dry out. Computer Vision Syndrome describes symptoms of sore dry eyes, blurry vision, difficulty focusing, headaches or a lovely combo of all of the above. You can minimise the effects by using screen glasses and prevent it by following these eye tips..
Adjust your lighting on your screen brightness and your screen contrast to suit. Make sure that your screen isn’t brighter than the surrounding light, or your eyes will have to work so much harder to see.
Adjust your room lighting, natural light is always best, face away from windows and lights.
Blink more - make a conscious effort, we forget when we’re staring at cute croissant pics and it helps prevents fatigue and dry eye.
Get outside and expose yourself to lots of bright natural daylight during the day to expose your eyes and reset your rhythms.
how to block blue light
We can put blue light blocking lenses into any of our frames, check our range of screen glasses here.
Our premium Blue Control lens treatment helps to neutralise the amount of blue light emitting from your devices by filtering it out - this will help optimise sleep and reduce eye strain.
Here’s to sparkling healthy eyes and a better nights sleep!

How to clean your glasses
Help your glasses live longer by looking after them with a little tlc, here's our guide to cleaning your glasses and taking care of your eyewear.
Keep your glasses in tip top condition by keeping them clean. They’ll naturally last longer and they won’t need replacing as often, which will make them even more sustainable - here's our top tips to taking care of your eyewear..
shape up
Get your glasses in shape - did you know there’s a right and a wrong way to remove your frames? Whipping them off one handed and wearing them as a handband will result in stretching and before you know it you’re out of shape.
Like many other things in life - it’s better if you use both hands. If you’re guilty of this, head down to your local Opticians and ask for them to be adjusted and reshaped or send them into us.
Keep them in your case - it's their natural habitat and not only keeps dust and dirt away, prevents bending and breakages. Stow in the glove box on a summers day - don't leave them on your dashboard - they just can't take the heat. And always place your precious eyewear lens up - otherwise you’re just asking for trouble.
how to clean your glasses
Cleaning in the wrong way with the wrong tools can damage your lenses and frames, so we’re answering your questions on how to clean and care for your glasses...
What do i clean my glasses with
Clothing is made up of fibres and can contain particles of dirt, both of which can scratch your lenses. Drying glasses lenses with paper towels, tissues, napkins or the end of your top is a big NO NO.
A scratch resistant coating will give you some protection, but even that can’t save you from yourself. Unlike frames, scratching to lenses can’t safely be polished out without danger of removing coatings and they will need to be replaced.
The only thing that’s qualified for cleaning is your glasses cleaning cloth. If you can’t put your hands on your optical cloth, you can come to us and purchase another – ours are upcycled from recycled plastic bottles.
Optical cleaning cloths are also ace at cleaning mobile phones too and you can pop your cloth in the wash at 30° to keep it fresh.
how often should I clean my glasses
Keep your frames and lenses in good condition with regular cleaning.
We recommend a daily lens clean with your optical cloth and at least a monthly deep clean of both frame and lenses.
Upgrade your routine to a weekly deep cleaning regime if you’re prone to perspiring, wear make-up daily or have an oily skin type. This will remove the build up of oils, make-up and grime, keeping both your glasses and your skin tip top.
How should i clean my glasses
The best way to clean your glasses is with simple luke warm soapy water and a soft cloth. If you live in a hard water area like we do, use filtered or distilled water instead of tap and use a mild natural soap - avoid detergent, scented soaps or ones containing dyes and alcohol based solutions as they can damage lenses.
You can use a soft bristled toothbrush to get in and around detailing and motifs, but take care not to use on your lenses.
Adding a bit of the hand soap onto your fingers work it onto the lenses in a circular motion to remove the build up of dirt, dust and oils.
After rinsing, dry your frame thoroughly with a smooth, clean, lint-free cloth like the one you get from us.
Lens cleaners can work well, but you need to make sure they're suitable for coated lenses and they generally come in a plastic bottle so the best choice for planet and pocket is good ole soap and water.
Be sure to avoid harsh chemical cleaners on your frames or lenses to avoid damage and keep them in pristine condition.

If you’ve committed one of the spectacle sins and your glasses suffer some scratching or damage don't panic, we’ve got all the solutions with our refurbishing and restoration services…

Repair and rewear your glasses
Repair and rewear your glasses and sunglasses. Fix broken glasses, from emergency remedies to our glasses restoration services - better for both planet and pocket.
With both a climate and cost of living crisis, there’s never been a better time to repair and rewear your existing glasses and sunglasses. We’ll show you to how to fix broken glasses, from an emergency repair remedy to our extensive glasses repairs and sunglasses restoration services - better for both planet and pocket.
how to fix broken glasses at home
When you’re in a fix.. the most common fix is having a screw come loose. Your glasses sides are attached by a tiny screw in the hinge and these screws can often come loose over time or even fall out.
A simple fix.. all you need is a tiny screwdriver - just line up the hinges, insert the screw into the hole and screw back in place. For a sprung side hinge it’s a bit trickier to align and replace the screw at home, so you’ll need some expert help.
If you can't find the missing screw, you could try finding a similar sized screw from an older pair of glasses you don't wear any more, or visit the store you purchased the frames from and they should sort you out with a replacement.
An emergency home remedy is to use a bit of twist tie wire. Thread the wire through the holes and secure until you can get your glasses properly repaired with a replacement screw.
glasses and sunglasses repairs & restoration
If your eyewear’s in need of a little tlc, repair don’t replace. Be sustainable and prolong the life of your glasses and sunglasses with our repair services.
If you’ve been told it’s not possible to repair your glasses and you must buy new, get in touch and see what we can do. We can salvage spectacles from the hands of children and we’ve even been known to remove the odd dog bite!
Restore glasses to former glory with our restoration services; repairing and reworking broken hinges, replacing broken parts and updating glasses with fresh new lenses and prescriptions.
We always recommend having a spare pair of glasses for use when restoration and repair work is carried out on your everyday frame, some repair services can take 1-2 weeks leaving you without your glasses.
Restoring and rewearing your glasses will keep them in use for years to come. It’s always worth repairing well made frames so when chosing glasses always go for the best quality you can afford and remember loved things last.
Glasses frame repairs
There’s a number of ways we can fix broken glasses and sunglasses with our frame restoration services..
Hinge repairs for broken glasses hinges - new custom made hinges will be made and fitted to your damaged glasses or sunglasses frames. If your sides are damaged we find a best match replacement sides which we’ll source and fit to your frame. Side tips, nose pads and screws can all be quickly and easily replaced. We offer soldering, bonding and pinning and an array of other glasses repair options too.
Frame adjustments when sides have been twisted or pulled out of shape, can be heat treated, adjusted and straightened back to their original state.
Ultra Sonic Deep Clean is a deep cleaning treatment where lenses are removed, before being cleansed, along with frame, in our ultra sonic cleaner ‘Bubbles’ to remove built up dirt from every crevice, before being hand finished and reassembled. This cleaning service is also included in the Peep Polish.
Peep Polish is our polishing restoration and refurbishing service for both glasses and sunglasses (frames only) that removes wear including scratching and discolouration and restores lustre, prolonging the longevity of your glasses.
Frames are dismantled before being polished on our polishing wheel and then buffed to restore sheen. The frame parts go for a dip in our ultra sonic cleaner Bubbles followed by an ultrafine finishing polish, then reassembled, heat treated and reshaped, screws tightened and oiled.
Cut, edge and fit this service is for you if your glasses are beyond repair, but your lenses are still good. We can find a similar style frame - we’ll show you some options for you to choose from and fit your lenses into them.
Replacing damaged scratched glasses lenses
To prevent scratching, keep your glasses in the case and face up when they’re not on your face. If your glasses lenses are scratched, they will probably need replacing.
There are some products around now, usually for jewellery and watch restoration, that may be able to polish out the scratched damage, but this could do further damage creating distortion or damage to the lens coatings so we really can’t recommend it.
If your lenses are cracked there’s no way to salvage them, they’ll need replacing - glasses and sunglasses lenses can be replaced with your updated prescription.
All our premium lens coatings come with a 2 year peace of mind scratch guarantee, so if you find yourself with scratched lenses, they’ll be replaced at no extra cost. This can be a good way to get the most from your lenses if you’re a dropper or share a home with children or animals.

With our eco friendly, try at home glasses service, exclusive to our uk customers, we’re here to help make your glasses journey both sustainable and stress free..
Choosing your prescription glasses
Finding the right shape and style of prescription glasses online can seem daunting, but if you follow a few simple rules you can’t go wrong.. and if you do, that’s where our Home Try On service comes in.
Frame shape should contrast face shape to achieve a good balance. So if you have angular features, soften with curved shapes and if you have round features, get some angles going on. Use square shapes to break up length and add sharpness. Or try a cat eye to break up squarer and more rounded face shapes.
Choose colours that compliment you - colours that you know work with your skin tone, eye and hair colour and current wardrobe. Black and tortoiseshell frames will always stand the test of time, but there’s never been a better time for some dopamine dressing with colourful print and pattern prescription glasses frames.
Above all else go with your gut and wear what you love.
finding the right frame
Try before you buy with our virtual mirror. This will help match you with your perfect prescription glasses with the added bonus that it reduces down the number of styles that don’t suit and returning packages, keeping our carbon footprint low.
Simply click on the TRY ON text to the left above the frame image, it will ask you to allow us camera access, so tick allow and remember to remove your current glasses! Have a play and see what suits.
This feature will help you decide on the right style. You can finalise options and decide which to try IRL with our Home Try On Service.
If you’re struggling with styling utilise our Personal Shopper service - we have lots of frames that aren’t yet in the store - using our expertise and your input, we can source the studio and style you in frames handpicked for you.
Try prescription glasses at home
Sometimes you just need to hold things in your hands - we get it. Choose your glasses without pressure, at your leisure from the comfort of your sofa.
The way our Home Try On service works is you choose and purchase up to 4 pairs of glasses frames - 4 pairs give a good chance of success and is eco friendly keeping our carbon footprint down with multiple packages.
Simply select Home Try On at checkout, take free delivery, seek opinions from friends and family and see if they suit for up to 7 days. If none are quite right, you can simply return free of charge for an exchange of styles. We have lots of extra styles that aren’t yet up on the website, so be sure to ask if there’s something particular you’re searching for.
Don’t worry about adding your prescription lenses at this stage - we’ll walk you through the options once you’ve decided on your frame, based on your prescription and visual needs.
The fit of your prescription glassses
A good fit is crucial to comfort. When choosing glasses, oversized or not, pay attention to the width of the frame. Balance your features and keep some proportion above and below the frames.
The most important thing is to measure the total width of a current pair you own and compare to our FTW measurement in the product description, for a good guide on sizing your glasses.
Top Tip : use the measurements on your old eyewear to find a similar size that works for you. Glasses, especially modern frames, have eye size and other measurements on the inside to help - three sizes, measured in millimetres, for the eye, bridge and arm and a series of numbers, such as 50 18 145, can be found on the arm or bridge of your glasses.
Once you find your perfect pair - note the frame size and measurements and use this when in search of your next piece.

Back to work - glasses lenses to get the job done
Choosing the right lenses to go in your glasses is essential. From screen glasses, to office and multifocal lenses, we’re here to take away the blur and find some clarity.
It’s a fresh new year and we’re back in the office or studio ready to take on 2022, so choosing the right lenses to go in your glasses is super important to get the best visuals from your eyewear. From screen glasses, to office and varifocal lenses. We’re here to help take away the blur and find you some clarity.
life through a lens
Just as the right pair of glasses can boost your confidence at work, the right lenses can boost your visual confidence and prevent digital eye strain symptoms like neck pain, headaches and blurred vision that can occur as a result of wearing the wrong lenses.. it’s a bit like the wrong trousers, only worse.
The type of lens you’ll need depends on your lifestyle, job, visual needs and how you prefer to use your glasses - there’s an ideal lens for everyone and we’re here to help you find it…
single vision lenses
Single vision lenses, or fixed focus lenses, are great for one distance. For example, reading glasses are great for close work like reading books but once you look up everything beyond can be fuzzy. Perfect also for long range distances like driving, but you won’t be able to read in these - it has a single purpose, the clues in the name.
The younger you are the more you can adapt to different distances, but as we head into our forties our visual accommodation reduces and we can’t adapt as easily to the other distance and we start to need longer arms.
power boost lenses
Also known as anti-fatigue lenses, perfect for students and our younger crowd (under forty or under +1.00D reading addition on your prescription) who are working with devices and screens.
Power Boost lenses give a boost of extra reading power at the bottom of the lens to help reduce eye fatigue by relaxing the eye muscles so you can focus better, as the muscles in your eyes are working overtime.
Switching between devices is thought to increase eye strain by 22% and small screens viewed at short distances with long viewing times causes digital eye strain, so these lenses are an ideal solution.
office lenses
Office lenses, also known as occupational lenses, are a more modern lens designed for both reading and computer with the added option to include room distance (walking from studio to kettle).
Office lenses provide better focus and a wider field of vision for close to intermediate distances than varifocals, giving more natural vision for work tasks to making and creating to baking and cooking.
It’s not just for office workers, this lens is for anyone who needs to carry out close work but also look at other distances, bearing in mind these aren’t suitable for driving.
varifocals
Varifocal, or multifocal lenses, work by having different prescription strengths at different points in the lens, so they have multiple distances in a single lens.
Your eye measurements are taken and applied to the lens, so you access the distance you need by looking up and down through the different points in the lens - look ahead to catch the lasted episode of Bridgerton and down the lens to read the book version.
A good all rounder lens, though they can take a little getting used to, varifocals are great multi-taskers but not as good at individual tasks, unlike single vision or office lenses.
They are great at doing a little of everything, so you can leave them on all day, drive and also carry out close work. But if you just want them to get through your stack of vintage Vogues, they might not be for you.
blue light screen glasses
Our Blue Control lenses help to reduce the amount of blue light from your screens by filtering to help optimise sleep and reduce eye strain. Our digital screen lenses are specially designed to reduce the amount of blue light that reaches the eye.
Blue light suppresses the brains release of the hormone melatonin, a sleep inducing hormone, so artificial night time light throws out the body's biological clock, the circadian rhythm.
Poor sleep can cause so many health issues, so we need do everything we can to secure a good night’s sleep and blocking out blue light in the evening with computer glasses can help.
We can put blue light blocking lenses into any of our frames whether you wear prescription or not, check our range of screen glasses here.
When choosing your new lenses the main question is what am I going to use my glasses for and what am I willing to compromise on? We can fit any lenses into any of our sustainable glasses frames - just get in touch for optical advice - we’re here to help!
